Activity Description

Play a tape with a variety of sounds on it and/or speak at differing levels to the students. Have students show “thumbs up” when they hear and recognize the sounds. Have a student keep a tally of the number of students who show “thumbs up.”

 

Repeat the activity, only this time have students “amplify” the sounds around them by cupping their hands around their ears. Again, have students show “thumbs up” when they hear and recognize the sounds. Keep a tally and compare with the first list.
